Rag Town 04:00
Every city has a Locust and a Poplar Street Atlanta, everything is Peach Home is something different Like the cradle of a mother Home is hard to leave Even this rag town Even some rag town Just another city in the creases of the map Another one that luck forgot People like to mock it Drive right on You’ll always find a parking spot In this rag town In this rag town In this rag town I listen to the silence on a summer night I listen to the baseball crack I listen to the wailing of the sirens When a yellow sky turns black In this rag town There was a dime store I was ten years old Green as I could be Sit at the countertop and watch the cars Until the plate was clean Now it’s rag town Call it rag town Call it rag town I listen to thumping of my hearts some nights I listen to my darkest thoughts A lot of people talking how we’re doing fine I wonder if they just forgot Our little rag town Little rag town Little rag town Little rag town

Pink Rebel 03:24
Pink rebel with a sword held high Pink rebel off a’ 65 Pissed off and looking saddle sore Someone should tell him That he lost the war Pink rebel Done fought that war The General, he’s been vandalized Been shot up a dozen times Pistol raised and his teeth bit tight Charging over the lanes The terror of the interstate He was silver in his day Towered like a genie from the carpet store They hit him with a coat of paint Pink rebel with a sword held high Pink rebel off a’ 65 Pissed off and looking saddle sore Someone should tell him that he lost the war Pink rebel Done lost that war The General is no friend of mine Drove past him too many times They ought to plant a couple bushes by the highway So we’ll never have to look at him Some people love their battle hymns They sing of bravery They swell with pride But there ain’t no good Word for slavery Pink rebel with a sword held high Pink rebel off a’ 65 Pissed off and looking saddle sore Someone should tell him That he lost the war Pink rebel Done lost that war Pink rebel Done lost that war Pink rebel with a sword held high Pink rebel off a’ 65 Pissed off and looking saddle sore Someone should tell him That he lost the war Pink rebel Done lost that war Pink rebel Done lost that war Pink rebel Done lost that war Done fought that war

about

Critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter Grant-Lee Phillips returns with his first new songs of 2021. "Rag Town" is a tender slice of Americana that illustrates how cities across the country transform over time and that its inhabitants are oftentimes oblivious to these changes. "Pink Rebel" is a politically-charged number about a nearby Confederate statue that has overstayed its welcome, highly topical and personal to Grant and his home of Nashville. Featured on the track are Jay Bellerose (Alison Krauss, Robert Plant), Jennifer Condos (Bruce Springsteen) and Eric Heywood (Son Volt, The Jayhawks).
